Catching Star-Stuff will show you what the FWAS spectroscope is capable of doing and the current state of the project. The presentation provides a basic description of what a spectroscope is and how it works. It shows how the components connect and what it is capable of doing. The process of acquiring a spectrum and analyzing it is illustrated by showing what each step looks like. Finally a few of the spectroscope’s uses are illustrated.
Joe Novosel is a long time visual amateur astronomer (Haley’s comment 1986) and member of the FWAS. Along with Peter Hess, and Ben Ziter they are working to make the FWAS LHIRES spectroscope a working instrument. He was recently elected to the FWAS board. He had a 41 year carrier in engineering and until his retirement in late 2019 he worked as the electrical engineering lead on the L3 Harris ABI weather satellite program.
